The fluid ounce is a unit of measure in volume, whereas the ml (or mL) is also used for volume as well. So, if you're trying to measure an ingredient in terms of how it is priced on a container, you'd want to keep in the context of the equivalent or more for it correctly. For reference, a 500mL bottle of water holds about 2 US cups, approximately 16.91 US fluid ounces (507g), and a 750ml bottle of red wine equals about 25.36 ounces.

The fact that there are two different ml equivalents makes it a bit tricky in that it is very easy to use mismatched units, so it's worth checking which type of fluid ounce you're working with.
Although they are both around the same size, there are subtle but key differences: the US fluid ounce is based on the US system, the British on its own standard. The US fluid ounce is larger than the British fluid ounce because the US pint equals 16 of its fluid ounces, whereas the UK pint (568mL) divides into 20 of its fluid ounces.
